Black Sound (Green Turtle) Anchorage and Moorings
26° 45.5′ N · 77° 19.3′ W
The protected lagoon at the south end of Green Turtle Cay, a two-minute dinghy ride from New Plymouth, lined with small marinas, a boatyard and a mooring field.
Practical
Waterway Guide position N 26° 45.537' W 077° 19.301'. Entrance carries about 4-5 ft at low water (marinas.com), so most keelboats wait for half tide or better. Moorings fill most of the sound; holding is poor in thick grass (The Moorings and Waterway Guide both warn of this). Boats drawing 5 ft or less can anchor in the SE corner beside the mangroves. Mooring rental through the local marinas — verify locally. Two fuel facilities and the Abaco Yacht Services haul-out yard are on the sound. The 2-acre Black Sound Cay National Reserve (mangroves) is in the sound.
