Anchorage· Great Harbour Cay· Bahamas — North

Bay of Five Pirates

25° 44.9′ N · 77° 51.8′ W

A small bay just inside the Great Harbour cut, a couple of boats' worth of flat water in soft mud a short dinghy ride from the marina and the village.

Practical

ActiveCaptain position. Enter through the cut near the poles; in the harbour turn to starboard toward the marina along the red/green pair. Room for about two boats; monohulls stay just inside the line between the two reds, shallow cats can tuck deeper. Stay out of the channel: a Royal Bahamas Defence Force boat operates from here. The bottom is soft silt that smells of sewage, so let the anchor settle 30 minutes before backing down and do not run a watermaker (February 2021). Good in S/SW; not great in strong easterlies. Noforeignland users note debris on the bottom. Groceries, hardware and two liquor stores nearby; no bank or ATM.

Best for

Calm water inside the harbour without paying for a slip
