Oven Rock Gemstone Cave Hike

23° 58.8′ N · 76° 19.7′ W · approximate

A third-of-a-mile scramble inland from the beach to a cavern hung with stalactites and stalagmites, where water drips from the ceiling into still, luminous blue pools. The most spectacular land feature in the central Exumas.

Practical

Trailhead at the north end of the beach, about a quarter mile north of the oven-shaped rock; the start is marked with stones laid as an arrow. Follow to a RED BUOY hanging from a branch, then turn right. BRING A GOOD HEADLAMP — fully dark inside. Sturdy shoes, long trousers, water, bug spray. Do not swim in the pools.

Best for

Stalactite cave and blue pools, headlamp required
