March crowding in Elizabeth Harbour
23° 31.2′ N · 75° 45.0′ W
George Town is the southern terminus of the Bahamas cruising highway and the fleet accumulates there through the winter. March is at or just past the peak.
Practical
BOAT COUNTS: roughly 250-300 boats anchored along Stocking Island at the winter peak, with recent seasons reporting 350-400+. Expect Volleyball Beach, Monument and Sand Dollar to be crowded. Exuma Markets gets stripped after a mailboat gap, the Lake Victoria dinghy dock is congested, and Elizabeth Harbour is a 3-mile fetch — a strong norther makes the crossing to town wet and occasionally impassable by dinghy. VHF 68 is the hailing channel. The fleet thins from mid-April. If you want space, stay north of Black Point.
