Rodney Bay Anchorage
14° 4.7′ N · 60° 57.5′ W · approximate
The mile-long bay between Reduit Beach and the Pigeon Island causeway is St Lucia's yachting hub: a wide, sandy anchorage with the marina lagoon, beach bars, malls and the Friday street party all a dinghy ride away. In December it fills with the ARC fleet.
Practical
Position is a point in the open bay about 450 m off Reduit Beach, derived from the OpenStreetMap coastline (approx); anchor anywhere off Reduit Beach, off Gros Islet town or in the north corner under Pigeon Island in sand. Sheltered from the east-north-east trades; a winter north or north-west ground swell rolls in and can make the bay uncomfortable. Noonsite (April 2025): there is very limited or no anchoring inside the lagoon, so use the bay or take a marina berth/mooring. Dinghy landing: a dinghy pontoon near Gros Islet town (a local minds dinghies for a few EC$, tip on return) and a dinghy dock at Pigeon Island. Security: Noonsite and CSSN report repeated dinghy and outboard thefts and some boardings in this anchorage, including dinghies cut loose off Reduit Beach; lift and lock the dinghy every night and do not leave loose items in it. Jet skis race through the anchorage, so watch swimmers and dinghies. Fuel, water, chandlery and provisioning are in the lagoon at IGY Rodney Bay Marina. St Lucia Cruiser Net: 8:30 am on VHF 68, Monday to Saturday.
