Marigot Bay Anchorage and Moorings

13° 58.0′ N · 61° 1.6′ W

A near-landlocked, palm-lined inlet hidden behind a sand spit, 3.75 miles south-west of Castries, often called the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean. The inner harbour is a classic hurricane hole with a marina, mooring field, waterfront restaurants and the Doctor Dolittle film-set history.

Practical

Coordinate is the Wikipedia/GNS position for Marigot Harbor (inner bay). Entrance per Noonsite: 13°58.1'N, 61°01.8'W; look for the house with a bright red roof on the cliff top at the south side of the entrance; the channel is lit with port and starboard markers (IALA B, red right returning). Options: anchor in the outer bay outside the channel near the entrance (busy with tour boats and hotel dinghies; keep an anchor watch), or go inside and take one of about 20 mooring buoys run by the marina/resort, or a marina berth. The nightly mooring fee includes use of the resort facilities; pay at the marina office after tying up (Noonsite). The Moorings: call Marigot Bay Marina on VHF 12 or 16 before picking up a mooring so you are logged in. Several small boats will approach offering to help; some tout unofficial moorings, so check you are on a marina buoy. Security: theft and attempted boardings after dark have been reported; remove loose items from deck and lock up (Noonsite). Clearance, fuel and water at the marina.
