Grenada is generally safe and welcoming, but the south-coast cruiser bays see steady dinghy, outboard and gear theft, occasional burglaries of unattended boats, and in February 2024 the murder of two cruisers off Grand Anse by escaped prisoners.

Position is nominal (south-west coast). February 18, 2024: three men who had escaped a St George's police cell boarded the catamaran Simplicity anchored off Grand Anse and killed its US crew, Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel. The boat was found off Wallilabou, St Vincent, the men were caught, and in 2025 they accepted reduced charges and long prison sentences (CSSN, Noonsite). CSSN statistics: 17 Grenada incidents in 2024 and 7 in 2025, the 2025 total including one robbery at Clarke's Court Bay. 2026 so far has brought thefts in Clarkes Court Bay (March), Prickly Bay (June) and Hog Island (July), burglaries at Mount Hartman (August and September) and an attempted robbery on the dock at Le Phare Bleu (October 10). Precautions: lift and lock the dinghy and outboard every night, since even cable locks are cut. Lock the boat with a cockpit light on when ashore. Do not leave loose gear, fuel cans or SUPs on deck. Avoid walking alone on isolated paths. Pay in EC dollars rather than flashing US cash. Be extra vigilant before and during Christmas and Carnival. Report incidents to the Coast Guard (VHF 16, +1 473 444 1931) and CSSN. The Grenada–Trinidad passage has a history of piracy attempts (most recently 2019): file a float plan, consider the Coast Guard-escorted convoys, and keep AIS on.
