Distillerie Depaz (St-Pierre)
14° 45.5′ N · 61° 9.9′ W
An agricole rum distillery on the Habitation La Montagne estate, on 80 hectares of volcanic slope at the foot of Mont Pelée just above Saint-Pierre. It was rebuilt by Victor Depaz, the only member of his family to survive 1902 (he was studying in Bordeaux).
Practical
Martinique tourism: free self-guided tour with the island's oldest steam engine, an 18th-century animal-powered mill and a small museum. The tasting shop sells the full range, from the white Cuvée de la Montagne to vintage aged rums. The Château Depaz mansion, built 1917-1922, can also be visited. Wikipedia: the distillery was founded in 1917 and its rums are AOC Martinique. Uphill from town, about 2.5 km from the pier: walk, or take a taxi. Position from French Wikipedia.
