Carriacou Maroon and String Band Music Festival
12° 29.0′ N · 61° 27.4′ W · approximate
Carriacou's premier cultural weekend each late April, honouring the Maroons and the island's African roots with Big Drum dancing, string bands, quadrille and communal 'smoke food' cooked in big pots over open fires.
Practical
Coordinate is Hillsborough (approx); events move between villages (the 2026 opening was in Belair). Began in 2001. The 2026 festival ran April 24-26 under the theme 'Honouring the Ancestors, Empowering the Youth' (NOW Grenada, March 2026). Held at the end of April each year over three days (Pure Grenada). This falls in the dry season and is an easy fit with a Grenadines cruise; anchor in Tyrrel Bay and use buses or taxis.
