Nazareth Bay Anchorage (Secret Harbour)

18° 19.0′ N · 64° 51.3′ W · approximate

The small south-facing bay at Secret Harbour on the east end, a DPNR designated anchorage off a reef-fringed beach with the Sunset Grille and a resort dive shop ashore.

Practical

Position approximate: off Secret Harbor Beach in Nazareth Bay (OpenStreetMap), checked to be in the water about 130 m from shore. No published depths or holding found; sound your way in and anchor clear of the resort swim area and its snorkel reef. Sheltered from the trades by the east-end hills but open to the south, so it is uncomfortable in southerly swell or ahead of tropical systems. Designated DPNR anchorage ('Secret Harbor', Noonsite 2018 list). Dinghy to the beach for the Sunset Grille (daily happy hour 4 pm to 6 pm). USVI anchoring rules: DPNR requires an Anchoring Permit for recreational vessels anchoring in USVI waters without a mooring permit, and charter vessels not registered in the USVI need a Cruising Permit for overnight anchoring (DPNR site, 2026). DPNR enforces a 14-day limit in any one designated anchorage in a six-month period (Noonsite, 2018); move bays to restart the count or apply for a long-term permit (up to 30 days).

Best for

A quieter east-end night with a sunset dinner ashore

Season

Nov to May in normal trades; avoid in southerly swell
