Long Bay (Beef Island)

18° 26.8′ N · 64° 32.8′ W · approximate

A long, curved stretch of beach on the north side of Beef Island, just west of the airport and minutes from the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge; a quiet swim stop before or after a flight.

Practical

Position is the Long Bay bay node on OpenStreetMap (node 2414833885), just off the mapped beach (way 464098244); not checked against a chart. Wikivoyage describes it as a long curved beach with no amenities (OpenStreetMap does map a small beach bar, Island Bay Beach Shack, at the west end; confirm it is open). Wikipedia notes local concern for the adjacent salt pond, reef and mangroves. No moorings or documented anchorage were found; it faces north toward the Camanoes and is exposed to winter swell. Most crews reach it on foot or by taxi from Trellis Bay or the airport.

Best for

A last swim near the airport
