Hull Bay Anchorage
18° 22.2′ N · 64° 57.3′ W · approximate
A small north-shore fishing bay southeast of Inner Brass Island, crowded with local moorings, where a calm summer day gives a quiet anchorage off the surf beach and The Shack at The Hideaway.
Practical
Position approximate: the OpenStreetMap 'Hull Bay' water label, about 350 m west of the beach. Coast Pilot: the bay is shoal, with a reef and heavy surf along the southwest shore and more reef along the western shoreline; a small-craft channel runs in the middle of the bay; numerous fishing and recreational boats are moored here and there is a boat ramp. No published depths or holding found: sound your way in, anchor clear of the local moorings and the channel, and use the center channel for the dinghy. Designated DPNR anchorage ('Hull Bay', Noonsite 2018 list). Wikivoyage: winter brings surf, and it is the island's surfing beach, so the bay is untenable in north ground swell. USVI anchoring rules: DPNR requires an Anchoring Permit for recreational vessels anchoring in USVI waters without a mooring permit, and charter vessels not registered in the USVI need a Cruising Permit for overnight anchoring; pollution and refuse discharge fines run to US$10,000 per offense (DPNR site, 2026). DPNR enforces a 14-day limit in any one designated anchorage in a six-month period (Noonsite, 2018).
