Loy Krathong (Koh Chang)

12° 2.9′ N · 102° 17.9′ E

On the November full moon, Koh Chang floats krathongs: the main celebration is a five-night temple fair at Wat Khlong Prao, and Salak Phet villagers have floated thousands of coconut-shell lanterns across their bay.

Practical

iamkohchang: the Khlong Prao temple fair runs five nights with market stalls, stage shows, a disco in the school field next door and fundraising for the temple (2011 report). In 2015 Salak Phet villagers made a couple of thousand coconut-shell lanterns and floated them on the bay as a 'Sea of Light'. Loy Krathong falls on the full moon of the 12th lunar month, usually November (Wikipedia). At anchor in Salak Phet, keep a lookout for floating lanterns and small boats after dark. Dates change each year; confirm locally.
