Loh Dalum Bay Anchorage

7° 44.9′ N · 98° 46.3′ E · approximate

The shallow, turquoise bay on the north side of Phi Phi's isthmus, back to back with Ton Sai, with excellent snorkelling and a swim-through cave on the west headland. It has plenty of government moorings and is the sunset bay of the island.

Practical

Position approx: plotted in the outer part of the bay north of the isthmus (OpenStreetMap places Loh Dalum village at 7.7398N 98.7703E); the Pilot gives a combined Yongkasem and Lohdalum waypoint. The north side dries for hundreds of metres at low tide, so moor in the outer bay and time dinghy landings for the tide. Government moorings in both Loh Dalum and Yongkasem; after 5pm most visiting yachts can find one, even in high season (Pilot). Exposed to the north in the NE monsoon. Lohdalum Bay was hit hardest by the 2004 tsunami, and a memorial on the beach holds an annual service (Wikipedia).
