Laem Set Anchorage

9° 25.0′ N · 100° 0.9′ E · approximate

An anchorage off Laem Set beach at Samui's southeast corner, a quiet resort-lined shore well away from Lamai's crowds, sheltered from the north and northeast by the island.

Practical

Approximate position about 0.5 km south of the OSM Laem Set Beach outline (way 461885893, shoreline near 9.421-9.424, 100.013-100.017), derived, not surveyed. No cruising guide consulted gives depth or holding: approach from the south in good light, sound in and expect shallows and rocky patches close inshore. Coming from Lamai, the Island Spirit guide warns of an unmarked reef just past Lamai Beach; polarised glasses help, as the water on this end of Samui is reasonably clear. Lee of the island in N and NE winds; open from the east round to the southwest, so not a SW-monsoon stop. Resorts ashore (Wikivoyage lists the ShaSa Hotel at Laem Set) may let you land a dinghy if you eat there; ask first.

Best for

A calm lunch stop in N-NE winds on the way round to Koh Taen

Season

NE monsoon in settled weather; exposed E to SW
