Koh Mak Southwest Bay (Ao Suan Yai/Ao Kao) Anchorage
11° 48.5′ N · 102° 27.5′ E
Koh Mak's southwest bay, the less crowded overnight in the northeast monsoon. It is near the Makathanee ferry jetty and the island's most developed beach, Ao Kao.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 11°48.487N 102°27.523E: overnight in 8–10 m near the ferry jetty in the NE season. Avoid the fringing reef along the beach and the mooring lines running out from the jetty. Nearby islets offer snorkelling (Koh Rayang Nai, Koh Rayang Nok, Koh Phi). OpenStreetMap shows the Makathanee pier and, just inland, an X Minimart (7am–9:30pm), the Olive pharmacy and fuel sellers near Ao Kao. Note: the Pilot calls this the southwest bay; Ao Suan Yai is the northwest beach and Ao Kao the southwest.
Best for
NE-season overnight close to Ao Kao's restaurants and shops
