Ao Ting Rai Anchorage (Koh Jum)

7° 49.6′ N · 98° 56.7′ E · approximate

The bay off Ting Rai, the island's middle village, a peaceful jungle-backed beach with clear water and a scatter of bungalow resorts and bars under the hills of Koh Pu.

Practical

Position approx: the OpenStreetMap point for the bay (Ao Ting Rai), about 800 m off the beach (OSM beach 7.8276N 98.9546E). No cruising-guide soundings were found for this spot (the Southeast Asia Pilot does not cover Koh Jum), so approach on the chart and sounder, in daylight, on a rising tide. Ting Rai Beach has shallow water close in; the rocky shores either side give the island's best snorkelling, best at high tide (thailandmagazine.com). West-facing and open to the SW monsoon. Ashore: Ting Rai village has small shops, halal restaurants and a fuel point (OSM, 7.8210N 98.9679E). Ban Koh Jum's health centre is a short ride south.
