Ao Lamai Anchorage
9° 28.0′ N · 100° 3.1′ E · approximate
Samui's second resort beach, a broad east-facing bay with sand and good access to bars, restaurants and minimarts ashore.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot: anchor mid-bay in 6-8 m on sand, avoiding the sand bar and fringing coral outcrops in the northwest of the bay. The Pilot's printed waypoint for Lamai repeats the Koh Katen position, so this coordinate is derived instead: mid-bay off the OSM Lamai Beach outline (9.4625, 100.0450). Can get uncomfortable in the southwest monsoon from ground swell, and it is open to the east in NE-monsoon surges. Ashore: accommodation, minimarts, bars, discos and restaurants; Makro is a short taxi ride south.
Best for
Restaurants and nightlife with a sand bottom
Season
Settled weather; uncomfortable in NE surges and SW ground swell
