Grand Anse (Mahé) Surf Beach
4° 40.7′ S · 55° 26.8′ E
The longest beach on Mahé's west coast, with no protecting reef, so real waves roll in: the island's best-known surf break when the northwest monsoon is blowing.
Practical
The Moorings eGuide: surfing at Grand Anse is ideal November to April when larger waves arrive. Wikivoyage also lists Anse Gaulette, Anse aux Poules Bleues and Beau Vallon as surf spots. Swimming is for confident swimmers only: deep water and sometimes strong currents (Seyvillas). Not a yacht anchorage: open to swell, no reef shelter. The Chemin La Misère road climbs from here across the island; the AVANI Barbarons resort sits at the south end.
