Frégate Island (Private Resort)
4° 35.2′ S · 55° 56.4′ E
The easternmost granitic Inner Island, 55 km east of Mahé: a 2 sq km private island resort (16 villas) that saved the Seychelles magpie robin and hosts more than 3,000 free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises.
Practical
Pin is the GeoNames island coordinate. Highest point Mount Signal (125 m). Island harbour, helipad and a 502 m airstrip (Frégate Island Airport, FSSF/FRK). Visiting boats must hold a rat-free licence because the island is entirely pest-free (rats eradicated 2001), and landing is for resort guests or by prior arrangement only. The island is surrounded by deep water with a drop-off popular for deep-sea fishing. Beaches: Anse Victorin, Anse Maquereau and Anse Bambous (north coast), Grand Anse, Petit Grande Anse and Anse Félix (southwest), Anse Coup de Poing and Anse Parc (southeast). Pirates are said to have used the island in the early 1700s; old stone walls remain. Operator note: the island website (footer 'Unique Fregate 2026') says access is reserved exclusively for island guests and that bookings will reopen soon; it no longer names Oetker Collection, so check status before planning around the resort.
