Montague Harbour Marine Park (Galiano Island)

48° 53.7′ N · 123° 24.1′ W · approximate

B.C.'s first marine park, a sheltered harbour on Galiano's south-west side with white shell beaches, a lagoon and forest trails around Gray Peninsula. It is one of the most popular overnight anchorages in the Gulf Islands, with buoys, a park dock and a marina nearby.

Practical

Position is approximate, in the north-west of the harbour near the park buoys. 35 BC Parks buoys plus lots of room to anchor in good holding; check depths on chart 3473. BC Parks marine fees: buoys C$14 a night (the published Newcastle Island rate; other parks are reported to match) and park docks C$2 per metre a night (published for Newcastle and Wallace Islands). From May 15, 2026 BC Parks adds a C$20 non-resident fee per vessel for buoy or dock use unless someone aboard can show B.C. residency; it is not clear whether that is once per stay or every night. Park dock for boats up to 11 m (36 ft). Sheltered in most weather; a strong southeaster can send a chop in from Trincomali Channel. Montague Harbour is a federal designated sewage area: no discharge at all unless it passes a marine sanitation device meeting 14 fecal coliforms per 100 mL, so hold everything. BC Parks bans dumping sewage or grey water while moored in its marine parks. Permanent shellfish closure along the south shore by the public wharf. Rockfish conservation areas inside the park. Protect the shell middens: use the stairs to the beaches. Park operator RLC Park Services 1-250-474-1336. Fuel, store and restaurant at Montague Harbour Marina.
