Mackaye Harbor (Lopez Island)

48° 26.5′ N · 122° 52.7′ W

A wide harbour on the south-west tip of Lopez, sheltered by Iceberg Point and a chain of small islands. It is a good jumping-off spot for the Strait of Juan de Fuca and a short walk from the Iceberg Point trails.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM bay. Good shelter in 5-6 fathoms (30-36 ft, 9-11 m), soft mud (Coast Pilot); a 2019 report gives 15-20 ft (4.5-6 m) at low water with good holding and some swell in south-westerlies. Barlow Bay on the south side offers excellent shelter for small craft with local knowledge, but it shallows and dries to the south. Approach at least 0.3 mile south and east of the off-lying islets; the inside passage between Lopez and Charles Islands is for local boats only. The pier and ramp at the north-east corner are for day use; land a dinghy at the county ramp area.
