IUCN Category V protected seascape: destructive fishing is banned and local sanctuaries (e.g., Pescador Island) charge fees; respect marked no-take zones. Whale and dolphin watching tours operate from Bais on the Negros side. Oil exploration was abandoned after a Supreme Court case brought on behalf of the strait's cetaceans.
