Puerto Galera Excavation Museum and Church

13° 30.1′ N · 120° 57.3′ E

A one-room museum in the grounds of the Immaculate Conception church on the hill above Muelle, displaying burial jars and Chinese trade porcelain dug up around Puerto Galera - evidence of trade with China going back a thousand years.

Practical

Position: OSM church 'Immaculate Conception'. PGYC: the Municipal Museum is near the church above Muelle Pier, covers the Spanish, American and Japanese periods, and is open most daylight hours except Sundays. A 2012 blog: church bell tower and excavation museum are within walking distance of the pier and display Chinese porcelain and shells; the same post points to the Muelle Cross, commemorating the 1800s sinking of the gunboat Canonero de Mariveles. Burial sites at Lalaguna and Minolo point to a long-settled pre-colonial culture (PGYC). Small or free entry - verify locally.
