Port Binanga Anchorage (Morong)
14° 44.4′ N · 120° 15.9′ E · approximate
A bight on the south-west shore of Subic Bay, just inside the entrance on the Morong (Bataan) side, ringed by forested hills. It is a quiet alternative to the Olongapo waterfront for a crew that wants to swim and lie at anchor inside the bay's protection.
Practical
Position approximate: centre of the mapped Port Binanga bay (OSM relation 12232052, tagged as a seamark sea area), about 420 m off the nearest shore. Depth and holding are not documented in the sources found; approach slowly and sound. Noonsite describes Subic Bay as a deep natural harbour with mountain ranges around it that make it an excellent protected anchorage and a natural typhoon shelter. A large shipyard complex is mapped on the shore to the north-east (OSM: Hanjin Heavy Industries, Morong), so keep clear of commercial traffic and any restricted waterfront. You are still inside Subic Bay Freeport waters: yachts need SBMA entry/exit permits and third-party liability insurance (PGYC directory), and all harbour movements need Coast Guard approval (Noonsite). Nothing ashore for yachts; provisions, fuel and clearance are at the Subic Bay Yacht Club side about 5 NM north-east. The PGYC notes advise leaving Grande Island to starboard when entering Subic Bay.
