Palauig Bay Anchorage (Zambales)

15° 27.0′ N · 119° 54.0′ E

A peaceful anchorage on the remote Zambales coast about 33 NM north of Capones Island, one of the few stopping places between Subic Bay and Bolinao. The shore is fishing villages under the Zambales mountains.

Practical

Position from the PGYC West Luzon inbound notes: anchorage near 15°27'N 119°54'E, about 1 km off the coast in the mapped Palauig Bay (OSM). The notes call it peaceful, a little closer to civilisation than Caiman Cove, but with the same coral hazard: outcrops are not exactly where the charts show them, so enter and leave in good light with a bow lookout. Depth and holding are not given. Palauig town is a base for trekking Mt Tapulao (Wikivoyage). Exposure: open to the west; a NE-monsoon stop only. Fishing boats, unlit at night, and FADs are the main hazard on this coast (PGYC). Caiman Cove anchorage, about 29 NM further north near the Pangasinan border, is at about 15°55.5'N 119°47'E (PGYC).
