Anawangin Cove Anchorage

14° 52.6′ N · 120° 4.0′ E · approximate

An open crescent of grey-white sand backed by agoho (casuarina) groves and the bare hills of the Zambales coast, about 15 NM up the coast from the Subic Bay entrance. It makes a lunch or settled-weather overnight stop off a famous camping beach.

Practical

Coordinates approximate: centroid of the mapped water area of Anawangin (Calaguaguin) Bay in OSM. Depth and holding are not documented in the sources found; approach slowly and sound. The cove faces west to the South China Sea and has no protection from westerly or southwesterly winds and swell. Treat it as a day stop or calm-weather NE-monsoon anchorage and leave if the habagat (SW monsoon) sets in. Weekends are crowded with Metro Manila campers and bangkas from Pundaquit. Many coves allow camping only, with no permanent accommodation. No provisions, fuel or water. Pundaquit, the nearest village with boats and basic stores, is 3 km north.

Best for

Season

Nov-Apr in settled NE monsoon; untenable in W-SW winds and swell (habagat, roughly Jun-Oct)
