Newcoast Anchorage (Boracay northeast)

11° 59.2′ N · 121° 55.7′ E

The cruiser anchorage on Boracay's north-east side off the Newcoast development, away from White Beach's banca traffic and usable when the south-west monsoon makes the west coast untenable.

Practical

Position: Sloepmouche (August 2017), 11°59.1739'N 121°55.7211'E, 8 m good sand in front of multi-storey hotels under construction; a docking wall and arch on the rocky point just south (Lapus-Lapus). Elizabeth Jane II (July 2014) at 11°59.135'N 121°55.786'E reported good holding but a strong tidal set; Shanghaied (2013) at 11°59.198'N 121°55.786'E in 12 m, good protection from westerly squalls. Water-sports boats (parasail, banana boats, jet skis) pass seaward in daylight. Shore access: long dinghy ride south to a beach, or a shorter ride north then walk about 20 minutes to the main road for a jeepney or tricycle. A dinghy trip round the north tip passes small deserted beaches, bat caves and snorkelling spots. Use in the habagat (SW, roughly Jun-Oct); in the NE amihan this coast is exposed - move to White Beach. Check current Boracay anchoring rules (see White Beach Anchoring and Boat Traffic Rules) and call the Coast Guard on VHF 16.
