Hamilo Cove Anchorage (Pico de Loro)

14° 10.8′ N · 120° 35.5′ E

The best-protected anchorage on the Batangas resort coast, tucked into Pico de Loro Cove on the Hamilo Coast with Mount Pico de Loro behind. Cruisers on the PGYC notes call its inner part pretty good holding in a typhoon.

Practical

Position from the PGYC West Luzon inbound notes: anchorage near 14°10.8'N 120°35.5'E. They say there is a buoy on the left side of the channel maintained by the landowner, which you may tie up to if it is free. Further inside the cove there is pretty good holding in a typhoon, with shallow muddy sand on the north and east shores. Local fishermen in the village are reasonably friendly. Pinnacle Rocks and marked snorkelling spots are mapped at the cove mouth (OSM), so enter in good light. The shore is the private Hamilo Coast development (Pico Sands Hotel, Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club), so ask before landing a dinghy. The notes are undated cruiser advice; verify the buoy and conditions locally.
