Del Carmen Anchorage

9° 51.9′ N · 125° 58.0′ E · approximate

A quiet anchorage off Del Carmen on Siargao's west coast, fronting one of the largest contiguous mangrove forests in the Philippines and the jump-off for Sugba Lagoon.

Practical

Approx position: about 200 m off the Del Carmen port (OSM harbour office way 338726526), checked to be in water (about 230 m off the OSM coastline). No cruiser report, depth or holding figure was found for Del Carmen in Noonsite, Hacking Family or the OCC Philippines thread - the coast is mangrove-fringed with shoals and small islets, so approach slowly on a rising tide with satellite imagery and expect shallow mud. The west coast is in Siargao's lee in the NE monsoon. OSM maps a pier (way 1422204516) and several small boat harbours along the Del Carmen waterfront; the Sugba Lagoon departure point and ticketing/tourism office are at the port (OSM nodes 3305352341 and 5963111387). Pumpboats run to Sugba Lagoon (20-30 min, about PHP 2,500 for 1-6 pax, Philippine Beach Guide July 2026) through the mangrove channels - see passage 'Del Carmen-Sugba Mangrove Channel'; take the dinghy or hire a banca rather than the yacht. A fuel station sits about 180 m from the Sugba boat landing (see 'Fuel Station (Del Carmen Port)'); Sayak (Siargao) Airport is a few km north. Provisions are basic; Dapa or General Luna are better stocked. Saltwater crocodiles live in the mangroves - do not swim in the channels.

Best for

Sugba Lagoon and mangrove tours by dinghy or banca

Season

Best in the NE monsoon (Nov-Mar) when it is in the island's lee
