Alona Beach
9° 32.9′ N · 123° 46.4′ E
Panglao's most famous beach: less than a kilometre of powder sand between rocky headlands, lined with resorts, bars and dive centres, with a coral reef just offshore. Named after actress Alona Alegre, who ran along it in a 1973 film.
Practical
Barangay Tawala, Panglao, about 2 km from Bohol-Panglao International Airport and about 20 km from Tagbilaran port. Southern Star Transit air-conditioned buses run Tagbilaran Integrated Bus Terminal - airport - Alona Beach about every 45 minutes from 5:45am to 6pm, PHP 50 (Wikivoyage). After Boracay's 2018 closure the government demolished structures inside the 20 m beach easement, so the frontage is more open than older photos show. The underwater area is protected and access is limited daily; currents can be strong at times and stir up the water. Busy and crowded at Christmas and Easter.
Best for
