Albaguen Island Anchorage (Port Barton)

10° 30.0′ N · 119° 7.7′ E · approximate

A lee off the west side of Albaguen, the large inhabited island at the north edge of the Port Barton group, with a fishing village and school ashore and Exotic Island and the Turtle Spot snorkel about 1.5 nm east by dinghy.

Practical

Position approximate: about 250 m off the island's west shore (OpenStreetMap way 4252689), checked as water against the OSM coastline; no cruising guide opened for this entry publishes an Albaguen anchorage, depths or holding. Sound in carefully and anchor on sand in good light. About 6 nm northwest of the Port Barton village anchorage in a straight line; route around the reefs and islets in daylight (see Port Barton Northern Channel). The west side is open to the west and southwest: use it in the northeast monsoon, and move in southwest weather. Fishing nets and pots are common around these islands (SEAP). The village (Albaguen hamlet, Albaguen Elementary School) has no yacht services; provision in Port Barton.

Best for

An off-the-circuit northeast-monsoon lee among the outer Port Barton islands

Season

Northeast monsoon (roughly Nov-Mar) lee; open to the west and southwest
