A sleepy fishing town 20 nm south of Cancún sheltered by a fringing reef a few hundred metres offshore - a pleasant stop between Cozumel/Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres with a leaning lighthouse and good reef snorkeling on the doorstep.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: a point in the reef lagoon off the town square between the shore and the reef, derived from the Wikivoyage position of the Faro Inclinado (20.8479, -86.8751) and the OSM Muelle Fiscal (20.8421, -86.8804); check your chart and sounder. Noonsite describes a clearly marked channel through the reef to the ferry dock area, with the town quay half a mile (0.8 km) north of the dock. The reef is only about 2 m deep near the snorkel areas and the reef lagoon is zoned - anchoring is restricted inside the national park, which has navigation channels and swimming zones: ask the park or El Cid marina before dropping the hook. Exposed in nortes; for real shelter go into Marina El Cid.
