Paradise Village / Nuevo Vallarta Outside Anchorage

20° 40.8′ N · 105° 18.2′ W · approximate

The open roadstead off the long Nuevo Vallarta beach outside the Paradise Village and Marina Nuevo Vallarta entrance. There is no documented cruiser anchorage here. Boats bound for Nuevo Vallarta take a slip inside, and anchoring crews go to La Cruz, 6 nm northwest.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: an open-water point about 0.5 nm southwest of the shared Paradise Village / Nuevo Vallarta entrance (Paradise Village published position 20 41.2'N, 105 17.9'W). It is a reference point, not a recommended anchor spot. Noonsite (May 2026) says the only places to anchor in the bay are La Cruz, Yelapa and Punta de Mita, and a 2022 cruiser account calls Paradise Village 'a marina on the river, not an anchorage'. The afternoon thermal is strongest 2 to 3 miles off this entrance and kicks up a short sea. The beach is a straight, open surf beach with no shelter. The entrance is narrow and shallow, with ongoing dredging, and the Marina Nuevo Vallarta channel silts up, so call ahead (Paradise Village VHF 16, +52 322 226 6728; Marina Nuevo Vallarta VHF 16, +52 322 297 7000) for current depths before you commit to entering. Hail Paradise Village about 15 minutes out. If you must wait for daylight or the morning calm, the La Cruz anchorage is the documented option. Crocodiles live in the Nuevo Vallarta lagoons and canals.
