Bahía San Carlos Anchorage (Sonora)

27° 56.6′ N · 111° 3.3′ W · approximate

La Bahía — the main San Carlos anchorage beneath the twin horns of Tetakawi, steps from Marina San Carlos's dinghy dock and good restaurants.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate, in the bay just south of the Marina San Carlos coordinate. Watch for occasional poor holding in grass and strong afternoon winds in winter. Good protection from typical seasonal winds and waves but open to storm surge and swell. Use the Marina San Carlos dinghy dock; lift and lock dinghies and outboards — thefts have been reported. The Log lists Bahía San Carlos (with Algodones, Martini Cove and Bacochibampo) among the region's south-wind shelters and San Carlos as a hurricane hole, but Hurricane Marty (2003) still put four boats aground in San Carlos and knocked over boats in dry storage (Club Cruceros) — for a named storm take a marina slip early or haul out. Marina San Carlos monitors VHF 16 (+52 622 226 1202; WhatsApp +52 622 149 4664). Restaurants a short walk from the dinghy dock: Tortuga's and the Marinaterra resort.
