20° 23.8′ N · 87° 18.8′ W · approximate

A wide white-sand crescent on warm, shallow Akumal Bay where green turtles graze the seagrass a few metres from the shore.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap 'Playa' attraction on Akumal Bay (approximate). Wikivoyage (2022): the beach is free and a guide is not required if you are comfortable snorkelling, but parking costs M$50 and touts pose as officials to sell tours; snorkel gear rental from Akumal Dive Center about 200 pesos; stay away from the buoyed fire-coral area. The bay became a federal protected-species refuge in March 2016 (Wikipedia) - follow posted rules, wear a rash guard or biodegradable sunscreen. Lol Ha restaurant is right on the beach.
