Route du Rhum Finish (Pointe-a-Pitre)

16° 13.7′ N · 61° 32.0′ W · approximate

The legendary single-handed transatlantic race from Saint-Malo in Brittany finishes in Pointe-a-Pitre every four years in November; the whole island turns out to welcome the skippers, from giant trimarans to amateur racers.

Practical

Coordinate approx: the Pointe-a-Pitre harbour waterfront near the finish quays; Marina Bas-du-Fort's honour quay is named after the sailor Florence Arthaud. The 13th edition starts from Saint-Malo on 1 November 2026 at 1:02pm (Wikipedia); the race record is 6 days 19 hours 47 minutes (Charles Caudrelier, 2022), so the first boats can arrive about a week after the start, with smaller classes finishing over the following weeks. Expect marinas and anchorages around Pointe-a-Pitre to be very busy in November of race years - book berths early. 2022 had 138 starters and 103 finishers.
