Pointe Morphy Dive Site (Pointe-Noire)

16° 14.6′ N · 61° 48.2′ W · approximate

A canyon dive off the Pointe Morphy headland north of Pointe-Noire, outside the Cousteau reserve: gullies run out to a drop-off, with parrotfish, trunkfish, spotted morays and soldierfish.

Practical

Coordinate approx: placed about 150 m west of the Pointe Morphy cape (OSM node 4800778270); the coastline there runs at about -61.8020, so the point is in open water. Dive operators do not publish the exact buoy position. It is dived by the clubs between Deshaies and Pointe-Noire (Nautica Plongee at Petite Anse, Les Baillantes Tortues at Baille-Argent). Open to the Caribbean side, so only dive it in settled conditions without northerly swell. Lobster-pot lines are common along this coast.
