Mount Scenery Trail

Climb 1,064 steps from Windwardside through rainforest into the elfin cloud forest at the summit of Mount Scenery (about 870 m) - the highest point in the whole Kingdom of the Netherlands, with views to Statia, St Kitts and St Barth on a clear morning.
Practical
Coordinates are the summit (Wikipedia/GeoHack). Trailhead is opposite the Trail Shop in Windwardside; strenuous, about 2.5 hours (SCF). You can start higher at the end of the Mountain Road (about 25 minutes shorter) or via Bud's Mountain Trail. Go early - the peak is often in cloud by afternoon. Steps near the top are slippery: rubber soles and a hiking stick (rentable at the Trail Shop). SCF warned of temporary summit closures during refurbishment, and the Windwardside lookout was closed until 1 September 2026 - check the current trail advisory. Mount Scenery became a national park in 2019.
