Island Harbour Anchorage

18° 15.5′ N · 62° 59.9′ W · approximate

The reef-sheltered harbour of Anguilla's fishing village on the north-east coast: colourful fishing boats, clear water about 10 ft deep, and the islet of Scilly Cay a short dinghy ride away. Cruisers rate it highly.

Practical

Coordinate approx: in the harbour between the village shore and Scilly Cay (OpenStreetMap bay relation 2698310). Depths around 10 ft. Reviewers advise trusting electronic charts over the surface markers, and local fishermen will help with navigation; take that seriously, because reef surrounds the harbour. Good snorkelling. Requires the cruising permit and is in the Shoal Bay-Island Harbour Marine Park, where anchoring is restricted to sand. It is a long beat back to Road Bay (about 13 nm), and older reports say overnight stays outside Road Bay and Crocus Bay are not allowed, so confirm overnight permission when buying your permit. A Delta Petroleum road service station is near the harbour (OpenStreetMap).
