Ile Fourchue Hike

17° 57.5′ N · 62° 54.5′ W

A short scramble to Mont Exibard (103 m), the highest of Fourchue's five peaks - the island was once called 'Five Island' - for a view back to St Barth and across to St Martin, Saba and Statia.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap summit node. About 20 minutes to the peaks; there are no real trails, just rock hopping through dry grass, cactus and thorny scrub that can pierce trainer soles - wear sturdy shoes. Goats once stripped the island bare; vegetation is recovering. The island is privately owned and part of the reserve: stay off nesting areas and take everything back aboard. Locals sometimes camp here in October, November and April.

Best for

Sunset scramble from the moorings
