Hurricane Season (Guadeloupe)
16° 16.0′ N · 61° 32.9′ W
Guadeloupe lies in the Atlantic hurricane belt (season 1 June-30 November, peak August-September). The traditional storm shelters are the mangroves of the Riviere Salee and the Pointe-a-Pitre harbour, but most cruisers leave for Grenada or Trinidad or haul out.
Practical
Position: Riviere Salee (Wikipedia). Noonsite lists two hurricane holes at Pointe-a-Pitre - the port de plaisance and the Riviere Salee - but the Riviere Salee bridges have been closed to yacht traffic, limiting access from the north. noforeignland: most yachts leave Guadeloupe for the season, typically for Trinidad or Grenada. Marina Bas-du-Fort has a 35-tonne travel-lift and hard standing. Check your insurer's named-storm and latitude requirements. In 2017 Hurricane Maria damaged the Deshaies dinghy dock (Noonsite).
