White Sands Beach Park (Magic Sands)
19° 35.7′ N · 155° 58.3′ W
A small pocket of very white sand on Ali'i Drive, also called La'aloa or Disappearing Sands, because winter surf can strip all the sand in a day and leave bare lava until calm weather slowly brings it back. One of Kona's most popular bodyboarding spots.
Practical
Coordinate from To-Hawaii.com's pin; on Ali'i Drive just north of mile marker 4, about 3 miles south of Kailua. Limited parking. A powerful shorebreak and rip current develop in rough conditions; snorkel only when calm and clear. Restrooms in the park. A land excursion from Kailua or Keauhou; no anchorage off the beach.
Best for
Bodyboarding and a swim between Kailua and Keauhou
