Propane and Gas Cylinders (Lihue)
21° 58.1′ N · 159° 22.9′ W · approximate
Propane for the galley on Kauai is handled out of Lihue; Hawaii Gas runs the island's bulk propane supply through Nawiliwili, and Airgas and Home Depot in Lihue deal in tanks.
Practical
The County of Kauai lists Airgas (808) 245-6766 (sells new tanks; charges $91 to devalve and dispose of an old tank, waived with a new tank purchase) and Home Depot Lihue (808) 632-2740 (takes an old 5-gallon tank free with a new purchase) - county page checked October 2026. Whether either will REFILL a yacht's cylinder (and with what fittings) could not be confirmed; AmeriGas's Lihue office no longer offers walk-in service. Call Airgas first, and bring adapters for non-US cylinders. Empty valved tanks up to 10 gallons are accepted free from residents at the Hanalei, Kapaa, Lihue and Hanapepe refuse transfer stations. A Kapaa propane fill could not be verified from a primary source. The Garden Island (2018) reported Hawaii Gas planning 22 underground LPG tanks at Nawiliwili Harbor off Pier 2 for island supply resilience. Coordinate is approx: the OpenStreetMap position of Home Depot Lihue; Airgas's street location was not confirmed.
