Maunakea Visitor Information Station (Onizuka Center)
19° 45.6′ N · 155° 27.4′ W
The visitor station at about 9,200 ft at the end of the paved Mauna Kea Access Road, about 6 miles above Saddle Road - the place to stargaze and to acclimatize before the summit.
Practical
Coordinate from to-hawaii's map. Staff or volunteers often lead star tours and amateur astronomers set up telescopes (Wikipedia). Confirm current hours on the Maunakea site. Cold at night - bring warm layers. Saddle Road has no services; fuel up in Hilo.
