Kaumana Cave

19° 41.2′ N · 155° 7.8′ W

A lava tube from Mauna Loa's 1881 flow that nearly reached Hilo - surveyed at about 2 miles long - entered through a collapsed skylight on the Saddle Road side of town.

Practical

Bring headlamps and sturdy shoes; parts of the tube run under private property. Many formations have been broken off by souvenir hunters - leave it as you find it.
