Makena Offshore Moorings
20° 39.3′ N · 156° 26.9′ W · approximate
Off Makena Landing DOBOR maintains one of two designated offshore mooring areas on Maui's south coast, alongside the state day-use dive buoys at Five Graves and Turtle Town.
Practical
Approx: plotted about 0.4 nm west of Makena Landing (OpenStreetMap); DOBOR does not publish the mooring-area boundary. DOBOR's Maui facilities page says offshore mooring is available at Makena; these are permitted moorings under HAR 13-235 (application, Army Corps permit, engineered tackle), not transient balls, so visitors should anchor on sand nearby instead. The nearby state day-use buoys are for daytime only: 2.5 hours maximum, no overnight. Positions from the DLNR list: Keawalai 20°38.726'N 156°26.885'W; Turtle Arches 20°38.738'N 156°26.875'W; 19th Hole 20°38.710'N 156°26.820'W; Five Graves 1 to 5 from 20°39.346'N 156°26.752'W to 20°39.450'N 156°26.740'W; Puu Olai 1 to 3 around 20°38.34-38.42'N 156°27.03-27.16'W.
