Makena Landing
20° 39.2′ N · 156° 26.5′ W · approximate
A tiny county beach park and boat ramp on the old Makena cattle-shipping landing, the dinghy landing and kayak launch for the Makena anchorage, with turtles grazing along the lava on either side.
Practical
Approx: beach position from OpenStreetMap (way 249472054). Restrooms, showers and a small parking lot that fills by midday; no lifeguards; no rental shops on site. Entry for snorkeling is over lava ledges beside the ramp; in calm conditions snorkel the rocks on the south side or swim north toward Five Caves. Land dinghies clear of the ramp so trailer and kayak users can launch. Go early before the sea breeze.
Best for
Dinghy landing and an easy turtle snorkel
