Lahaina town is still a recovery zone after the August 8, 2023 fire that destroyed about 80% of town and killed 102 people. Visitors can reach the harbor on defined routes, but the historic district and almost all businesses remain closed.

Practical

Coordinate is Lahaina town centre (Wikipedia). Per Maui County (updated Aug 4, 2026): only DLNR/DOBOR-permitted operators may operate from the harbor; tour customers are escorted from the 116 Prison Street lot. Pier access 6am to 6pm, daylight only; County lots close at 6pm. Free 3-hour parking at 500 Front Street (Shaw and Front) and 116 Prison Street (Prison and Front); private parking may be available at Lahaina Restoration Foundation, 691 Luakini Street. Canal, Wharf and Hotel Streets are drive-through only (no parking); Market Street, Papelekane Street and Mokuhinia Place remain closed. Closed: Lahaina Courthouse and Banyan Tree Park, Lahaina Library, Kamehameha Brick Palace, former Kamehameha III school lot, Malu Ulu o Lele Park, Pakala (Kamehameha Iki Park) except beach access to the Breakwalls. 'No Lahaina town businesses or historic sites are open to the public.' Stay on marked pedestrian routes and off private property; a County security team patrols. Residential zones marked Local Access Only need a re-entry pass. Sea-side access to Lahaina Harbor or Mala Wharf outside normal rules goes to the US Coast Guard case by case.
