Koloa Landing

21° 52.8′ N · 159° 28.0′ W · approximate

The old whaling and cargo landing at Poipu, now Kauai's most popular shore dive and snorkel: an easy entry onto a reef with octopus and reef fish.

Practical

Seasport Divers: shore dive, easy, 20-45 ft, visibility 30-60 ft; also a snorkel site; historic port for whalers, fishermen and cargo. HAR 13-256-54: the Koloa Landing restricted area (Lae o Kahala to the western edge of Keawaloa Bay) is for swimming and diving - no vessel may operate or moor there, except to enter or leave in a straight line between the boat-launch area and the seaward boundary at slow-no-wake. Coast Pilot: the landing slip is treacherous; anchorage in 12 fathoms, rocky bottom, about 400 yards south of the landing. Coordinate approximated from the Coast Pilot (1.5 miles west of Makahuena Point) and the GNIS position of Lae o Kahala.
